With parents like these, who needs presents?

A friend asked me tonight to share something I admire about my parents.

Easy.

My mom loves with all her might. She persists in love. She loves through thick and thin. She is very good at loving us, just as we are. When she doesn't understand us, she still loves us. When she doesn't necessarily agree with us, she still loves us. I have never ever doubted my mother's love for me, even when I don't love myself. There's something radiant and irresistible and eternal about a love like that.

My dad loves with all his mind. He thinks about things and pays attention. I remember one year during the Yankee Swap, and when it was his turn he eagerly stole a pack of dishtowels from an 11-year-old cousin. I had just seen his favourite chocolates enter the game, and fully expected him to take those - but no. He was playing his own game, the game of finding out who was most disappointed with their gift and taking it from them so they could have another chance to find a better one. Every year I watch him play it, all by himself, and I love him for it.

If your Christmas is feeling a little lean, or a little lonely, or a little blue, this question might be one that warms your heart and brings you joy.

Think of someone you love - and tell me what you admire about them. ❤️

Merry Christmas, friends. Xo.
